Mutheka Farmers Cooperative Society is a coffee cooperative located in Nyeri, Kenya, between the Aberdare Range and Mount Kenya. Established in 2004 after separating from the Giant Tetu Coffee Growers Cooperative Society, the cooperative now works with approximately 6,000 smallholder farmers. Renowned for producing high-quality washed Kenyan coffees, Mutheka has built a strong reputation for coffees with vibrant acidity, distinctive fruit character, and exceptional clarity.
For this lot, freshly harvested cherries were processed using the traditional washed method. After depulping and fermentation, the coffee was thoroughly washed and dried on raised African beds for 14–21 days until reaching an optimal moisture content of 10–12%, before being hulled and graded by size and quality.
In the cup, bright notes of raspberry lead the profile, followed by the lingering character of smoked plum and oolong tea.
