Story

Terraform Coffee Roasters is a specialty coffee roasting brand founded in Shanghai in 2019. Born from the same roots as BLACKSHEEP ESPRESSO (established in 2017), we operate a standard SC-certified coffee roasting facility. Our offline experiences are centered around Blacksheep Espresso stores, with 3 locations across Shanghai and Tokyo. Each season, we launch 4 signature beans in our Blacksheep Series, weaving flavor narratives around distinct themes. Our Omni blend brings approachable, layered, everyday goodness to every cup.

Coffee Roasting Facility

Our roasting facility is located in Minhang District, Shanghai. Inspired by the roastery-café concept, our standard SC production workshop occupies the ground floor, embedded like a clean, contained box. The second floor is designed as an experiential coffee space, accessible by a staircase where guests can overlook the entire coffee roasting process. The public area also hosts cuppings, open houses, and workshops. From the initial design phase, we preserved parts of the old factory’s original structure and wall textures, letting traces of time dialogue with new materials. For roasting, we use: • Loring S15 (hot-air roaster) for single-origin pour-over coffees • Loring S70 for espresso beans • UG22 for the Blacksheep Espresso Blacksheep Series In our packaging workshop, FUSO automated packaging machines and fully automatic drip bag packers further boost mechanized production efficiency.

Sustainability

While consistently delivering high-quality flavors, we continuously pursue more efficient, low-carbon production methods. In daily operations, we use biodegradable, easily recyclable packaging and reusable exhibition materials. We also foster employee well-being and long-term development. As the 85th B Corp Certified business in Chinese Mainland, we act on our responsibility to advance sustainability. For us, a great cup of coffee is more than flavor—it carries care for the environment and society.

Coffee Quality

We believe great coffee starts with a deep understanding of origin. Each year, our team travels extensively to coffee-growing regions, building direct relationships with estates and farmers. Through collaboration and exchange, we keep exploring new flavor possibilities. To us, great coffee is not defined by scores alone. It lies in the honest expression of a coffee’s variety and terroir, and the care producers put into growing and processing. We strictly control defect rates to ensure stability, and we work with estates to create custom micro-lots, constantly refining how to make coffee taste better. Every coffee is rigorously cupped at our roastery to faithfully and consistently deliver origin flavor in every cup.

Community

The magic of coffee goes beyond the cup—it lives in human connection, turning great flavor into shared experience. We actively engage in the global coffee community, participating in Hotelex, international and domestic coffee festivals, and hosting cupping tours in cafes worldwide to share flavors and insights with enthusiasts in every city. Our stores are vital spaces for connecting with consumers. In Shanghai, Blacksheep Espresso has two locations on South Maoming Road and Middle Jianguo Road—lively, neighborhood streets serving great everyday coffee. In 2025, Blacksheep Espresso opened a store in Daikanyama, Tokyo. That same year, Terraform Coffee Roasters partnered with Jo Nagasaka’s Schemata Architects to create a new coffee space on a street corner in Shibuya, exploring how coffee integrates with urban life. We also offer professional workshops for clients and consumers, led by World Barista Championship champion coaches. We invite estate owners to our stores for in-person conversations, sharing coffee knowledge, brewing skills, and origin stories with every enthusiast. Through social media, we encourage community sharing and discussion, making every learning and tasting moment a bridge between people.
