Julio Chavez's washed Geisha coffee is grown in volcanic soil and natural shade at an altitude of 2500m, undergoing 32 hours of fermentation and 14 days of elevated drying. Julio adheres to the principles of mutual benefit and community cooperation inherent in the Andes Mountains. To address the severe impact of coffee leaf rust on the local coffee industry and the challenges posed by climate, Julio chose to cultivate disease-resistant coffee varieties at higher altitudes and maintained a quality-centric cultivation philosophy, establishing the San Sebastian Estate in 2014. Through his meticulous attention to detail, Julio has successfully cultivated the delicate and elegant Gesha and SL-09 varieties, realizing his dream of becoming a top coffee grower.
In 2022, Julio won second place in the Peruvian Cup of Excellence (COE) with a high score of 90.25 points, achieving a remarkable final price of USD 30.4/IB in the auction.
